winter active lawnseed
Why Buy this product?
Winter Active Lawnseed is a highly specialized grass seed mixture that is specially developed for use in low soil temperatures. This 100% winter-active mix germinates and grows in soil temperatures down to at least 5 degrees Celsius, which is significantly lower than what other Perennial Ryegrasses require (8-12 degrees Celsius). This makes it ideal for sowings 11-12 months a year, provided the soil temperature is at least 5 degrees Celsius.
This grass seed mix is rapid to germinate and establish, even in cold conditions, thanks to its fast-growing and high wear-tolerant properties. It is also drought-tolerant and maintains a great all-year-round color, with a high resistance to disease. As a perennial mix, it will last forever, unlike some competitor mixtures that include annual ryegrass. Winter Active Lawnseed is made up of fine-leaved grasses, unlike tetraploids and annual ryegrasses, which gives it a more refined and elegant appearance.
The mix has a high endophyte level, which brings numerous benefits to the plants, such as stronger root growth, quicker establishment, resistance to insect attack, bird deterrent properties, and overall stronger plants. It is ideal for autumn or early spring renovations, and it is suitable for all heavy-wear sports and hard-wearing lawn/landscaping areas. Vermillion, the cultivar used in this seed mix, was bred from the few surviving plants out of a test cricket pitch that withstood temperatures as low as -15 degrees Celsius. This grass seed mix is used in many New Zealand stadiums, including Wellington Park (Westpac Stadium).
